Meadow Bank Holiday

On twitching meadow bank,
distant laughs finally relaxed.
Primary colour blue canoe
slides through green screen gap.
Swaying hands march along
straight paths to hidden rhythms.

Bare legs and heads are separated
by a strong palette dress, then inverted.
Basslines despised since childhood
solve crises like a rhyming couplet.
Warm and gentle bristles between toes.
Parched lips and throat, we ignore home.

Untouchable beast bounds across field
with excitable eyes and tennis ball mouth.
Solitary back framed like a Dutch painting
picks at grass while surrounded in yellow.
White pages emerge matching all t-shirts.
Normality restored, ’til return of the mask.
